ALL-STAR WEEK CLOSURES AND SECURITY INFORMATION

SECURITY
AT&T Park

Ballpark Security: All persons entering AT&T Park for MLB All-Star Week events will be subject to magnetometer and and/or wanding security checks. Fans attending these events should allow extra time for security procedures to be completed.

McCovey Cove/China Basin Channel Security: The SFPD Marine Unit, in conjunction with the U. S. Coast Guard, has established a security zone for McCovey Cove/China Basin Channel during MLB All-Star events from July 7-10. A limited number of pre-screened official vessels, including ferries, law enforcement and media vessels, will be permitted to enter the security zone. Public access to the security zone will be limited to human-powered watercraft, 20 feet or less in length (including kayaks and canoes); the number of such watercraft will be limited for security purposes.

There will be two points of entry for the security zone, one at the Third Street Bridge, and one on the southeastern side of the Cove. There will be booms (floats) to mark points of entry and exit. Individuals and watercraft will be prohibited from entering the water directly from the shores of McCovey Cove. All watercraft must launch from the official All-Star launch or from other legal launches outside the security zone. In order to maintain a safe and secure environment in McCovey Cove, the Giants are requesting that all watercraft be pre-registered in order to gain entry into the security zone. Registered boaters will receive a commemorative MLB All-Star decal for each All-Star event they participate in. Register your watercraft now »

Please note the following guidelines for the McCovey Cove/China Basin Channel Security Zone:

  • Persons and all watercraft must consent to search before being permitted to enter the security zone.
  • Any watercraft that are deemed obviously unsafe by the US Coast Guard or SF Police Department will not be allowed entry into the security zone (e.g. inner tubes and pool toys).
  • All watercraft are required to have at least one lifejacket for each person on board in addition to a sound producing device (whistle) and a flash light or lantern if operating after sunset.
  • Due to safety and security concerns, there will be a limited number of approved registrations and access to McCovey Cove may be limited. Watercrafts will be accommodated on a first come, first serve basis.
  • The security zone is defined as the navigable waters within McCovey Cove/China Basin Channel, from the Third Street Bridge to the breakwater of South Beach Marina Pier 40, extending southeast to the pier head of Pier 48. The security zone will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7 through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10.
