The Mets are teaming up with The Hain Celestial Group , Inc. for their annual Fall Food Drive benefiting City Harvest and New Yorkers in need on Sunday, October 26 at Citi Field.
New York City is one of the few places where poverty continues to increase, and many residents are struggling to put meals on their tables. More than 1.4 million New Yorkers are food insecure, meaning that they don't always know where their next meal is coming from; this number includes nearly one in four children.
Fans donating 10 items or more of nonperishable nutritious food at the food drive will receive a voucher for one pair of tickets to a select Mets game in April 2015. Donors will also receive 15% off select regularly priced merchandise at the Mets Team Store at Citi Field Sunday, October 26 only. Season Ticket Holders who donate food and show their Season Ticket Holder ID card will receive 20% off that day only. Some exclusions apply.
Among the items most needed are: canned fruit, vegetables and proteins, plastic jars of peanut butter, packages of hot or cold cereal, and packages of macaroni and cheese. Items that will not be accepted are: unlabeled, expired, or dented cans; any open packaging; products that need to be refrigerated; or homemade products.
Fans can drop off their food donation inside the Mets Team Store adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fans may park in Lot G on 126th Street between the Right Field Gate and Roosevelt Avenue.
In July, the Mets Food Drive presented by Hain Celestial and benefiting City Harvest collected more than 12,600 pounds of food over three days, which helped feed more than 1,700 people for a week or 133 families for an entire month.
