Giants win challenge on call at first base in third
Replay review shows Crawford's throw beat deGrom as safe ruling is overturned

NEW YORK -- For the second consecutive night, the Giants erased a Mets baserunner by successfully challenging an umpire's call.
In Saturday night's second inning, Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was initially ruled safe at first base by umpire DJ Reyburn after tapping a slow roller to the infield's left side. Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford made a nice play on the ball, making a barehanded pickup followed by a perfect throw to first.
The replay review overturned Reyburn's ruling, proving that Crawford's throw was not only solid, but also was barely in time to retire deGrom.
Friday, the Giants requested a review which confirmed that New York's Chris Young was not hit by a second-inning pitch from Ryan Vogelsong but fouled it off instead.
