The Giants have signed second-round Draft pick Aramis Garcia, MLB.com's Jim Callis has confirmed.
Perfect Game USA first reported the news on Twitter. The former Florida International catcher will receive a $1.1 million signing bonus. The Giants have not confirmed the deal.
Garcia was named the 2014 Conference USA Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year this month, after he was taken with the 52nd overall pick in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He was the second-highest drafted player in the history of the Florida International baseball program (Josh Banks at 50th in 2003).
Garcia was an All-American and Conference USA's Player of the Year this season, and he also was a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award, given to the nation's top collegiate catcher. He hit .368 with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBIs, leading the conference in average and slugging percentage (.626).
