Giants lend efforts to Philippines typhoon relief

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Bay Area is home to one of the nation's largest Filipino communities, and the Giants have responded by committing extra effort to provide relief in the typhoon-stricken Philippines.
Donors contributing at least $30 to help people whose lives were disrupted by Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) will receive a limited edition Filipino Heritage/SF T-shirt.
Donations can be made at any Giants Dugout Store or at sfgiants.com/relief. Proceeds from T-shirt sales will benefit UNICEF and Feed the Hungry -- Philippines.
Ticket purchases for the 2014 Filipino Heritage Nights on May 12 and Aug. 15 at AT&T Park also will provide support. The Giants will donate proceeds from ticket sales for both nights to the relief effort. Tickets for those games will go on sale on Nov. 29 at sfgiants.com/specialevents.
"The Bay Area Filipino community is a member of the Giants family, and it is important they know we are here for them during these challenging times," Giants president Larry Baer said in a statement. "We share in the sadness and shock of the entire world by the typhoon's devastation in the Philippines. We hope that we can assist in the recovery and relief efforts by reaching out to our fans and encouraging them to remember those whose lives have been affected by the disaster."
