Giants officially add Moscoso, drop Petit

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants activated pitcher Guillermo Moscoso before Sunday's series finale against the Cubs and designated right-hander Yusmeiro Petit for assignment.

The Giants acquired Moscoso from the Cubs on Friday in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. He has not pitched in the Majors this season, but spent parts of the past four seasons in the big leagues with Texas, Oakland and Colorado, with a career 4.16 ERA in 57 games.

For Chicago's Triple-A affiliate this season, Moscoso went 7-5 with a 3.93 ERA.

"It's a good feeling that I'm here," Moscoso said. "I know pretty much all the guys, and I want to help the team win."

Worth noting

• The Giants were involved in one of four 1-0 games Saturday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it's only the second time in history that four 1-0 games occurred on one day (Sept. 2, 2001).

• Entering play Sunday, the Giants were hitting just .194 (48-for-247) with runners in scoring position in their past 31 games and had recorded two hits or fewer in that situation in 26 of their past 32 contests.

• A Cubs sweep would be their first in San Francisco since Sept. 13-15, 1993. The only other time the Giants have been swept at home in 2013 was earlier this month against the Mets.
