Crawford exits after spraining fingers on slide

X-rays negative, Giants shortstop likely out for series finale against Padres

SAN FRANCISCO -- After he sprained his right index and middle fingers while sliding into second base in the second inning of the Giants' 5-4 win Tuesday, Brandon Crawford exited the game and is unlikely to play Wednesday, manager Bruce Bochy said.

"He jammed them pretty good sliding into second," Bochy said. "We're optimistic he'll play Thursday. He couldn't get a good grip of the ball."

The X-rays were negative, so it is likely Crawford won't miss significant time with the injury.

"It didn't feel good, but I should be all right," said Crawford, who has appeared in 68 of 69 games this season. "It's not broken or anything like that."

Nick Noonan replaced Crawford and played third base the remainder of the game. His single set up a scoring play in the fourth inning.

"It's good to have a guy like Noonan," Bochy said. "He had a big hit for us tonight."
