Sanchez ready to return to rotation

Left-hander eligible to come off disabled list Wednesday

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy may suddenly have too many pitchers, a problem he'll gladly accept.

Left-hander Jonathan Sanchez threw off the mound before Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres and told Bochy he felt fine.

"He's ready to go," Bochy said. "We'll see how he's doing [Monday]. We haven't decided how we're going to squeeze him in yet."

There had been some discussion about using a six-man rotation, but Bochy nixed that idea -- for now.

The Giants plan to be careful with Sanchez and Tim Lincecum the rest of the way. While there are no plans to shut them down, they will be carefully monitored.

"If there's any concern, we'll back any of them off down the stretch," Bochy said. "You don't want to overwork them in September. If they show signs, we'll rest them."

A likely scenario for Sanchez, eligible to come off the disabled list Wednesday, would be to find him a start in Cincinnati.
