Little rustling in Giants' trade winds
No deals imminent, though Aurilia's name mentioned in rumor
By Chris Haft / MLB.com
Two Major League scouts representing other teams said Wednesday that they knew of no imminent trades involving San Francisco, which sent second baseman Ray Durham to Milwaukee on July 20.Though the Durham trade could be the only pre-Deadline move the Giants make, ESPN's Jayson Stark reported that the Minnesota Twins were eyeing infielder Rich Aurilia. The veteran could provide depth at third base and even second, although he has not played an inning at the latter spot this season after starting seven games there last year. Aurilia has started nine of the last 10 games, perhaps reflecting the Giants' intent to showcase him to facilitate a potential deal. Interestingly, the Twins are said to be offering right-hander Boof Bonser, who went from the Giants to the Twins along with right-hander Joe Nathan and left-hander Francisco Liriano in the oft-reviled A.J. Pierzynski deal. Jack Taschner remains available to the gaggle of clubs (Philadelphia, Florida, Detroit, St. Louis and Milwaukee, among others) searching for a left-handed reliever. Catcher Bengie Molina and right fielder Randy Winn, mentioned in scattered rumors, seem almost certain to stay put. The Yankees had been mentioned in Molina-related rumors, but their acquisition of catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez from Detroit officially wiped out the remote possibility of a swap with the Giants.
