Morris starts on Bonds' 43rd birthday

San Francisco (41-56) vs. Atlanta (53-47), Tuesday, 7:15 p.m. PT

On Tuesday, Barry Bonds will turn 43, and a win against the Atlanta Braves would be the best present the Giants could give him.

But if they don't, it's entirely likely that Bonds will try to manufacture the win all by himself. It's been known to happen. Bonds is two home runs away from tying Hank Aaron's all-time home run record of 755.

It's also Stitch-N-Pitch Night at AT&T Park on Tuesday, and while the fans are doing the stitching, Matt Morris will be pitching against former Oakland ace Tim Hudson.

Morris has not faced the Braves this season, but he's seen them plenty during his 10-year career. Morris has logged 13 career appearances against Atlanta and owns a 2-5 record with a 3.47 ERA. Although Morris has struggled lately, he still ranks among the National League leaders with 12 quality starts and is tied for first with three complete games.

Pitching matchup
SF: RHP Matt Morris (7-6, 4.08 ERA)
After ranking as San Francisco's leading winner through much of the season, Morris has slumped lately, posting an 0-3 record with an 8.35 ERA in his past six starts. He lasted only 4 2/3 innings in his previous outing, a 9-8 loss on Thursday at Wrigley Field. Morris yielded eight runs (five earned) and 12 hits that day, marking the third time in five starts that he has yielded 10 hits or more.

ATL: RHP Tim Hudson (10-5, 3.24 ERA)
Hudson picked up his 10th win and won his third straight decision in Atlanta's blowout victory over the Cardinals on Thursday. Pitching on five days' rest, Hudson allowed five hits and one run and improved to 4-0 in starts with at least an extra day to prepare. Hudson's downward movement on his fastball was working well, helping him record 13 groundouts while striking out three with just one walk. Hudson hasn't allowed a home run since June 19.
