Morris hit hard as Giants fall to A's

Right-hander struggles for 3 2/3 frames; Roberts excels

at San Francisco

Athletics at the plate: A double from Eric Chavez and a single from Mark Ellis gave Oakland a run in the second, followed by a triple from Shannon Stewart that stretched the A's lead to 2-1 in the third. The A's collected two more runs in the fourth with a single from Todd Walker and a double from Ellis, while Stewart drove in a run in the sixth and Erubiel Durazo's ninth-inning RBI made it 6-4.

Giants at the plate: Dave Roberts drove in the first two runs for San Francisco with a standup double in the first inning, and Omar Vizquel singled Roberts in during the third. The Giants added two more runs in the fourth off singles from Randy Winn, Todd Linden and Jason Ellison, and a bunt from Kevin Frandsen.

Athletics on the mound: Chad Gaudin threw 45 of his 66 pitches for strikes, allowing four runs before Lenny DiNardo took over in the fourth. DiNardo, Kiko Calero, Justin Duchscherer, Huston Street and Erasmo Ramirez held the Giants scoreless for the rest of the game.

Giants on the mound: Matt Morris threw 3 2/3 innings, surrendering four runs on eight hits before right-hander Sun-Woo Kim was called in to collect the final out. Kim allowed one run in the sixth, while Steve Kline and Scott Munter held the A's in check and Brad Hennessey allowed one run in the ninth.

Exhibition records: Athletics 16-12-1; Giants 15-17-1

Up next: The Giants will travel to Oakland on Sunday to close out the Bay Bridge Series at McAfee Coliseum at 1:05 p.m. PT. Left-hander Noah Lowry, who is 2-1 with a 6.56 ERA in exhibition play, will face off against Oakland's Joe Kennedy, who enters the game 1-1 with a 4.11 spring ERA.
