Giants announce 2012 Spring Training schedule
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The San Francisco Giants announced their 2012 Cactus League schedule today. The Giants are scheduled to play 33 games in Arizona this spring with an additional three more in the Bay Area (two in San Francisco and one in Oakland).
San Francisco's spring schedule will begin Saturday, March 3 at home versus the Colorado Rockies. Of the 33 games on the Giants' Arizona spring training schedule (including split squad games), 16 will be played at its Arizona home of Scottsdale Stadium.
The Giants, who have trained in Scottsdale since 1982, will embark on their 30th Spring Training at Scottsdale Stadium, where they drew 160,574 fans last spring, an average of 10,036 per game. San Francisco sold out seven spring contests at Scottsdale Stadium last season and their overall attendance ranked second in the Cactus League behind Arizona.
Manager Bruce Bochy and his Giants will host each of the Cactus League clubs at least once, including five games against the Rockies (March 3, 4, 7, 22 and 24) and four games against the Brewers (March 4, 5, 10 and April 1) and Athletics (March 17, April 2-4).
The Giants will break camp from Arizona on April 1 and head north to play three games against their Bay Area rivals the Oakland Athletics (April 2-4).
As was the case in 2011, an earlier switch to Daylight Savings Time in 2012 means that the Giants' first 10 exhibition games in Arizona will feature earlier Pacific Standard Time starts (1:05 p.m. Mountain Standard Time first pitch; 12:05 p.m. PST). After the clocks spring forward on Sunday, March 11, the start times will correspond in the two time zones.
