San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum, who was 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA, has been voted National League
Pitcher of the Month for June.
During the month, Lincecum tossed 48.2 innings, allowing eight earned runs and 35 hits with nine walks and 48
strikeouts. The reigning N.L. Cy Young award winner matched a career-best six-game winning streak, April 24th-June
12th. The 2008 N.L. All-Star tossed three complete games, including an eight-strikeout shutout on June 12th vs. Oakland,
a 12-strikeout effort on June 23rd at Oakland, and a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts on June 29th at St. Louis. The
two-hitter set a new career-best in a complete game, eclipsing his four-hit complete game on September 13, 2008. The 25-year-old, who now has three career shutouts and five career complete games, became the first Giants pitcher to toss
three complete games in a four-game span since Jason Schmidt accomplished the feat in June 2003. The Bellevue,
Washington native leads the N.L. with 132 strikeouts and is tied for the league-lead with teammate Matt Cain with three
complete games. This marks Tim's first career monthly pitcher honor.
Other pitchers receiving votes were Aaron Cook (5-1, 2.36 ERA, 24 SO) of the Colorado Rockies; John Lannan (3-0,
2.19 ERA, 13 SO) of the Nationals; Huston Street (11 SV, 2.13 ERA, 15 SO) of the Rockies; Dan Haren (3-1, 1.64 ERA, 42
SO) of the Diamondbacks; and Tommy Hanson (4-0, 2.48 ERA, 18 SO) of the Braves.
Tim Lincecum will receive a specially-designed trophy and a Sharp Aquos television to commemorate his Pitcher of
the Month performance.
