The Tigers on Thursday officially extended Major League camp invitations to 16 players ahead of the start of Spring Training next month.
Among the players invited to big league camp are infielder Danny Worth and former Tigers right-hander Duane Below. Worth has spent each of the past four seasons with the Tigers, though he appeared in just three games in 2013. Below, meanwhile, pitched in 41 games for Detroit from 2011-12 before spending this past season with the Marlins, for whom he made just two big league appearances.
Other players receiving invites from the Tigers include pitchers Jhan Marinez, Luis Marte, Eduardo Sanchez, Drew VerHagen, Blaine Hardy and Robbie Ray; catchers Craig Albernaz, Luis Exposito, James McCann and John Murrian; infielder Devon Travis; and outfielders Ezequiel Carrera, Tyler Collins and Trevor Crowe.
Along with those players, Tigers legends Willie Horton and Al Kaline will again be in uniform this spring as part of the Tigers' staff. The duo will be joined by a host of other guest staff members, including Kevin Bradshaw, Bill Dancy, Joe DePastino, Leon "Bull" Durham, Bruce Fields, Jaime Garcia, Al Nipper, Dave Owen, Larry Parrish, Gerald Perry, Brian Peterson, Gene Roof and A.J Sager.
Detroit's first pitchers and catchers workout is scheduled for Feb. 14, while the first full squad workout in Lakeland, Fla., will take place on Feb. 18.
