Astros Press Release
RHP Jose Cisnero to undergo elbow surgery
Will miss remainder of 2014 season
HOUSTON, TX - Astros RHP Jose Cisnero will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced this evening.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Thomas Mehlhoff next week in Houston. Recovery time varies from case to case, but typically takes 12 months or longer.
Cisnero was placed on the 15-day Disabled List on May 7 due to discomfort in his elbow. He appeared in five games for the Astros this season, all in relief.
ALBERS HAS MRI ON RIGHT SHOULDER
An MRI done today on the right shoulder of RHP Matt Albers showed no structural damage, Luhnow said. However, Albers does have some inflammation. As a result, he was given a cortisone shot in his shoulder today and will not throw for 10 days. Albers has been on the 15-day DL since April 22 with tendinitis in his shoulder.
