Giants take on Dodgers and Padres in Budweiser's Good Sport Challenge
Teams Challenge Their Fans to be ‘Budweiser Good Sports’ and Designated Drivers
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (JULY, 23) – The San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have found a new way to compete this season. To help promote a positive, in-park experience for fans and to help make our roads safe, each team is partnering with local officials, Budweiser and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition for the Budweiser Good Sport Designated Driver Challenge.
During each team’s home games this season, the Giants, Dodgers and Padres are encouraging adult fans to pledge to be designated drivers at Budweiser’s Good Sport booths located throughout all three ballparks.
The teams will earn a run, or one point, for every fan that registers. To qualify, designated drivers must:
- Be over the age of 21 and have a valid driver’s license
- Promise to not drink alcohol at the game
- Ensure a safe ride home from the game for their friends and family.
Giants fans can sign up at the Budweiser Good Sport designated driver desk outside of guest services behind section 119. Fans who pledge to be designated drivers receive a complimentary soft drink. “We’re proud to see Giants fans embracing the use of designated drivers,” said Jorge Costa, senior vice president of ballpark operations. “We want our fans to have an enjoyable experience at the park but most importantly, we want them to return home safely after every game.”
“The competitive nature of all three teams will really come out as neither the Giants, Dodgers nor the Padres want to lose to their rivals,” said Kathy Casso, vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility for Anheuser-Busch, maker of Budweiser. “Even though there will only be one victor in the Budweiser Good Sport Designated Driver Challenge, every fan who includes a designated driver in their game plan is part of the winning team.”
The Giants Community Fund will receive a $1000 donation from Anheuser-Busch if the Giants win the Budweiser Good Sport Designated Driver Challenge.
According to a survey conducted by ORC International’s CARAVAN®, the majority of sports fans adults 21 and older, who drink alcohol beverages said they drink responsibly and in moderation.
