MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Cole De Vries will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to start Saturday night's game against the Royals, the club announced Friday.
Left-hander Scott Diamond will start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Kansas City at Target Field.
De Vries pitched for Triple-A Rochester on Monday, allowing two runs on six hits over eight innings against Charlotte. He is 3-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 12 starts with Rochester this season, including a 2.53 ERA over his last three outings.
"I really feel like I'm pitching pretty well right now, so [I had] more time to get everything tuned up," De Vries said of his time with the Red Wings. "For me, that's more what it was."
Under a clause in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement regarding doubleheaders, the Twins can call up De Vries on Saturday without making a corresponding roster move.
De Vries, 27, made three starts with the Twins this season -- going 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA -- before being optioned back to Triple-A on June 7.
"I feel a little more comfortable with the situation because last time there were a lot of firsts going on and it's kind of a roller coaster of emotions," De Vries said. "I've been through a lot of those first situations now; second and third situations are a little easier to manage."
