As is the tradition of most players, this offseason the Padres will take to the links.
Bats and gloves get put away in place of drivers, irons and putters and 2012 will be no exception as the Padres once again partner with the Farmers Insurance Open.
Being committed to serving the community as the Team of the Military, the Padres have found a way to put their offseason golf to good use. When the Farmers Insurance Open is held at Torrey Pines January 23-29, the Padres will serve as the regional sponsor of the PGA Tour event for the third consecutive year.
As was the case last year, the Padres will again sponsor the Military Appreciation Pavilion and participate in the Military Luncheon.
The Pavilion, located near the 14th green of Torrey's South Course, has grown into a popular venue that is free to military members attending the tournament. It is open to all active duty military and their family only.
In past years, several Padres players and staff have participated in the pro-am tournament while and even larger number like to take in the action from the Pavilion while meeting and mingling with members of the Armed Forces.
Adjacent to the Pavilion are the 14th green bleachers, where golf and baseball fans are encouraged to wear their Padres gear.
Proceeds from the tournament's military programs go toward helping the military community. The Padres also designate a portion of sales of the team's military gear, both at the golf tournament and at PETCO Park, for military charity.
Mark the January tournament on your calendar and we'll see you at the course!
