Giants name Minor League staffs
Decker to lead Fresno; Skeels promoted to Double-A
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants officially announced their Minor League managerial and coaching staffs Tuesday, which featured the promotions of Steve Decker and Andy Skeels.
Decker, who will manage Triple-A Fresno, ascended one classification for the fourth consecutive year. His teams have posted a combined 168-114 record in the previous two seasons. Pat Rice returns as pitching coach while Ken Joyce steps in as the new hitting coach, replacing San Francisco-bound Hensley Meulens. Skeels will pilot Double-A Richmond, continuing his managerial ascent from low-Class A Augusta in 2008 and high-Class A San Jose last year. Skeels' Augusta and San Jose clubs finished a combined 178-102. His staff includes pitching coach Ross Grimsley and hitting coach Russ Morman. Brian Harper, formerly San Francisco's roving catching instructor, will become San Jose's manager. Managers Dave Machemer (Augusta), Tom Trebelhorn (short-season Salem-Keizer), Mike Goff (Arizona Rookie League) and Jesus Tavarez (Dominican Summer League) will return to their posts. San Francisco's affiliates finished with organized baseball's best record (463-305, .603). Five of the Giants' seven outposts reached the playoffs, led by league champions San Jose, Salem-Keizer and the Dominican Summer League club. San Jose also captured Minor League baseball's most prestigious award, the John H. Johnson President's Trophy, which honors the most complete franchise.Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com.
