Wilson to attend Holiday Heroes event

Annual fundraiser benefits multiple Bay Area charities

11/11/09 6:00 PM EST

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants closer Brian Wilson is among the celebrities scheduled to attend the annual Holiday Heroes fundraiser, which benefits multiple Bay Area charities.

The event, to be held Dec. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. PT at The Presidio's Golden Gate Club, will benefit Junior Giants youth baseball, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, as well as the Always Dream Foundation, 49ers Academy, Raphael House, the Holy Family Day Home and the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center.

Wilson, who followed his 2008 National League All-Star season by tying for third in the NL with 38 saves, will be joined by other featured personalities such as San Francisco 49ers stars Vernon Davis and Patrick Willis, Oakland Raiders linebacker Jon Alston, former NHL star Bret Hedican, San Jose Earthquakes goalie Joe Cannon, soccer star Brandi Chastain and former Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi.

Holiday Heroes is presented by the Wender Weis Foundation for Children (WWFC), which has hosted Halloween Heroes in the Bay Area. This will mark the San Francisco debut of Holiday Heroes. The WWFC partners with charitable organizations that are committed to assisting at-risk children to develop self-esteem, self-confidence, and a sense of camaraderie.

WWFC will sponsor 200 underprivileged children and their families to attend Holiday Heroes.
