The Giants will honor Sue Burns, their recently deceased senior general partner, with an on-field ceremony preceding Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The club is encouraging fans attending the game to wear orange as a salute to Burns, who died last Sunday of cancer at age 58. Burns wore orange, the Giants' signature color, as she attended every home game and sat next to the team's dugout. Players will wear patches honoring Burns and her husband, Harmon, who died in 2006. The patches will read, simply, "Burns." Harmon Burns was a key member of the investor group that purchased the Giants from Bob Lurie after the 1992 season and prevented them from moving to Tampa-St. Petersburg. Sue Burns inherited the title of senior general partner once her husband died. She had been said to possess the largest ownership stake in the team, believed to be approximately 20 percent, among its numerous partners. Trina Burns Dean and Tori Burns will reportedly inherit the shares.Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
