SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Giants announced Tuesday morning that infielder Kevin Frandsen has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno, which makes Emmanuel Burriss this year's Opening Day second baseman for San Francisco.

Frandsen and Burriss competed all spring for the second base job. Entering Tuesday, Burriss was hitting .357, while Frandsen owned a .274 average.

The Giants also reassigned infielder-outfielder Jesus Guzman to Minor League camp. Guzman hit .412, shared the team lead with 15 RBIs and paced the club with a .922 slugging percentage. But his inability to find a position -- which he likely will try to do at Triple-A -- made his demotion inevitable.
