Craig Landis, Winn's agent, said that Giants general manager Brian Sabean wants to finish constructing a roster for next season before determining whether the 34-year-old fits in beyond that.
"We left the ball in the Giants' court," Landis said Monday. "I'm not worried about it. ... [Sabean] said, let's get through the free-agency period and we'll evaluate our position at that time and let you know. So that's where we are. We're on hold. We're not talking seriously. We never talked money." Winn has hit .298 for the Giants since they acquired him from Seattle in a July 2005 trade. He owned a .283 career average before that. As a result, the appreciation between Winn and the Giants is mutual. "He likes the Giants, he's a Bay Area guy and he's played very well for the Giants," Landis said.Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com.
