Rowand expected to return Monday
Ailing Giants outfielder eager to play despite sore ribs
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants outfielder Aaron Rowand wants to play, even if his sore ribs prevent him from going all out.He wasn't in Sunday's lineup, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy doesn't see it as a long-term distraction. "He would go out there; he wants to play," Bochy said. "We're going to give him an extra day. With the way [John] Bowker swung the bat, it allows you to do that. There's no point in pushing it with Aaron." Rowand, who bruised his ribs while diving for a ball on April 2 in Los Angeles, has tried to play through the discomfort. Bowker singled and homered in his Major League debut Saturday, playing in right field while Randy Winn shifted to Rowand's center-field spot. Bochy expects Rowand to be in Monday night's lineup when the Arizona Diamondbacks and Randy Johnson open a three-game series.
