MARLINS 2, CARDINALS 2 (10 innings)
at Jupiter, Fla.
Thursday, March 20

Marlins at the plate: Alfredo Amezaga collected three base hits, scored a run and drove one in. Jorge Cantu doubled and drove in a run with a fielder's-choice grounder.

Cardinals at the plate: Aaron Miles scored the tying run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch. Brian Barton led off the game with an infield single and scored a run, though it was mostly a quiet day for St. Louis batters until the ninth. Albert Pujols had a single and an RBI.

Marlins on the mound: Ricky Nolasco did a fine job as the starter, holding St. Louis to a run on two hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked two. Scott Olsen fared well in his first Grapefruit League appearance in 2 1/2 weeks. Olsen breezed through three shutout innings with a hit, a strikeout and no walks.

Cardinals on the mound: Braden Looper turned it around after two rocky starts, allowing a run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Russ Springer pitched one inning without allowing a hit or a walk.

Grapefruit League records: Marlins 15-8-2; Cardinals 10-10-2.

Up next for the Marlins: The Marlins head to Kissimmee, Fla., on Friday to face the Astros in a 1:05 p.m. ET contest. Andrew Miller (1-0, 4.24 ERA) is looking to solidify a rotation spot in a spring where he has struggled with command. The 22-year-old lefty falls in line to pitch on Opening Day, but that doesn't mean he will get the ball.

Up next for the Cardinals: Freshly signed to a new four-year deal, Adam Wainwright will make his second-to-last start of the spring on Friday. Wainwright will pitch the 12:05 p.m. CT game against the Orioles at Roger Dean Stadium.
