Giants at the plate: Garrett Baker's one-out single in the second inning knocked in the game's first run. Trey Webb and Travis Denker put together back-to-back doubles in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.

Royals at the plate: Ryan Shealy knocked in the first run for the Royals with a bloop single to right in the third inning. Shealy's single tied the ballgame. David DeJesus, who singled earlier, doubled in a pair of runs in the sixth to put the Royals ahead. Esteban German's triple in the bottom of the seventh drove in three runs to cap a seven-run inning. For the game, the Royals banged out 17 hits.

Giants on the mound: Right-hander Victor Santos made his first start of the Cactus League season. Santos ran into trouble in the third inning when the Royals pieced together a string of singles to tie the ballgame. His troubles could have been much worse, but Santos fanned a pair of Royals with the bases loaded and one out. In three innings, he gave up seven hits and a run. Right-hander Keiichi Yabu pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Santos. But right-hander Billy Sadler couldn't match Yabu's work. Sadler gave up five runs -- four earned -- in two-thirds of an inning. Right-hander Danny Otero came in to bail Sadler out.

Royals on the mound: In his fourth start, right-hander Zack Greinke had a solid outing. Greinke went five innings and gave up a run on three hits. Left-hander Mike Maroth followed, but Maroth had trouble locating the strike zone. He walked three and ended up giving a pair of runs. His outing could have been worse. He wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play.

Cactus League records: Giants 6-14-2; Royals 10-8

Up next for Giants: The Giants travel to Tucson on Monday to face the Colorado Rockies, who defeated them 10-2 in their only other Cactus League meeting March 9. Triple-A Fresno right-hander Matt Palmer will start for the Giants and replace Tim Lincecum, who will get his work in by pitching an expected five innings in a Minor League game. Aaron Cook is Colorado's scheduled starter for the 1:05 p.m. PT contest.

Up next for Royals: Right-hander Brian Bannister starts for the Royals against the Athletics on Monday in Phoenix. Bannister will face A's left-hander Dana Eveland in a 3:05 p.m. CT game.
