Giants at the plate: Russ Ortiz hit a three-run double in the sixth, set up by an error by third baseman Scott Moore. Tomas De La Rosa, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in two intrasquad games, hit a one-out solo homer in the seventh. The Giants added four unearned runs in the ninth.

Cubs at the plate: Derrek Lee, looking to rebound after last season when he fractured his wrist, singled in his first at-bat. Geovany Soto hit an RBI triple in the seventh, and Brian Dopirak hit an RBI single in the eighth.

Giants on the mound: Barry Zito made his Giants debut and faced seven batters over two innings. He gave up one hit, a two-out single to Lee in the first. Ortiz was solid, throwing three hitless innings and striking out three.

Cubs on the mound: Jason Marquis gave up one run on three hits over two innings in his Cubs debut. Ben Howard gave up three runs, none earned, on two hits in one inning.

Cactus League records: Giants 1-0; Cubs 0-1

Up next: The Giants play host to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday at Scottsdale Stadium. Matt Cain, who signed a four-year contract on Thursday, is scheduled to start. The Cubs play host to the Angels at HoHoKam Park, sending Carlos Zambrano, the Opening Day starter, to the mound against lefty Joe Saunders.
