SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Backup infielder Deivi Cruz singled, doubled and played outstanding defense while left-hander Noah Lowry pitched three shutout innings in the Giants' 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers at Scottsdale Stadium on Tuesday.
Lowry, rocked for three runs in his first outing March 4, had his changeup working again and gave up only a single to leadoff batter Michael Young.
The winning pitcher was Jesse Foppert, who held the Rangers scoreless over the fourth and fifth innings.
Cruz doubled in the fourth frame off losing pitcher Carlos Almanzar and came home on Michael Tucker's single. Tucker, starting his first Cactus League game after recovering from a back problem, then scored on Marquis Grissom's double.
Playing third, Cruz made a great stop of a liner by Andres Torres in the eighth inning. His grounder in the bottom of the eighth brought home the Giants' fifth run after Jamie Athas was hit by a pitch and scored on Lance Niekro's double off the wall.
Rangers starter Chris Young pitched three scoreless innings, while Richard Hildago hammered his second homer of the spring, off Jason Christiansen to lead off the seventh.
