Out of nowhere: Noah Lowry
Southpaw could be surprise of Spring Training

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- You never know about draft picks, for crystal balls can only refract light, not foretell the future, and no magic mirrors exist to say who will be the fairest pitcher in the land.

It's a roll of the dice, a crapshoot.

Take Giants youngster Noah Lowry, the 30th draft choice in 2001's first round who played only eight games that season, then was limited to 12 starts the following campaign at Single-A San Jose because of shoulder tendinitis.

The injury limited the left-hander to three games over three months.

Not good. A promising career on hold.
