OAKLAND, Calif. -- With an 11th nod in his 16-year career, representing the National League at the All-Star Game is old hat for Barry Bonds. For teammate Benito Santiago, who will make his first Midsummer Classic appearance in a decade, it feels like the first time.

"My God, what great news I have today," said Santiago after Sunday's 7-0 loss to the A's.

"It's so exciting. It means a lot to me, especially after my car accident [in 1998] and what I went through. I never gave up on it. Two years ago, I was out of baseball. Things are great. ... Nothing but happiness right now."

Said Giants manager Dusty Baker: "That's nice for both of them, but it's especially nice for Benito. He's earned it; he deserves it.
