Angela Smith enters her 17th season with the Club and fifth as Director of Community Outreach. Prior to her promotion on November 6, 2009, she spent eight years as the Community Affairs Manager. She began her Marlins' career as the Community Affairs Intern in 1998.
The 1998 University of Miami graduate is very active in the community, working with organizations such as Shake A Leg Miami, which uses the marine environment to provide sailing and adaptive water sports programs to children and adults who are both able bodied or living with physical, developmental and economic challenges. She also serves as a guardian ad litem for abused and neglected children in dependency court.
Smith has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of several key programs, including the departments signature initiative, Marlins Ayudan and the Marlins Think Tank.
Meaning help in Spanish, Marlins Ayudan engages the Clubs entire front office in community service projects throughout the year.
The Marlins Think Tank is an interactive multimedia curriculum that aims to enrich the learning experiences of children in grades 4 through 6 by integrating baseball with the core curriculum areas of Writing, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health & Fitness.
