Playing with a hard-nosed, aggressive style that set him apart, McRae's example set a tone his teammates would follow. He won two Royals Player of the Year honors and was selected as an All-Star three times. McRae led the league in doubles twice, and topped the league in RBI (133) in 1982. One of the first players to take the designated hitter role to star status, he finished his career second on the Royals career list in both doubles (449) and RBIs (1,012). McRae later managed the Royals from 1991 to 1994, posting a 286-277 (.508) record.
