David Gottfried
Assistant General Manager/Baseball Operations
David Gottfried begins his 10th year in Houston's baseball operations department and his second as assistant general manager, baseball operations, after being named to the post in December of 2006. David will continue to assist General Manager Ed Wade in all areas within the baseball operations department, including free agent and 40-man roster contract negotiations, Major League rule compliance, and budgeting.

David was most recently the club's senior director of baseball operations, a position he was appointed to in January of 2005. In his role as senior director of baseball operations, he was involved in scouting, player research, contract negotiations, budgeting, visas, and affiliate relations. He joined the Astros in 1998 and spent two seasons as the club's baseball operations assistant. In the fall of 2000, he was named Director of Minor League Administration and was responsible for all administrative tasks related to the operation of the Astros farm system.

David joined the Astros after spending five years with the Oakland Athletics' Class A affiliate in Modesto, Calif., serving as general manager of the club for two seasons, in 1997 and 1998. Before his stint in Modesto, he spent two seasons with the Arizona Fall League, including the league's inaugural season of 1992. He spent the 1992 season with the Grand Canyon Rafters as their director of operations and moved to the AFL league office in 1993 to assist with marketing and operations-related matters.

A native of Longmeadow, Mass., David received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hofstra University in 1992. He and his wife, Tracy, reside in Manvel, Texas with their sons Benjamin and Connor.
