On Christmas Eve 2011, the Cobb family's world was turned upside down. Seven-year-old Rayshon Cobb was shot in the head by a drive-by shooter (who is still at large), leaving a bullet in his brain. Rayshon was unable to speak and paralyzed on his right side.
Rayshon spent nearly two hours each day for six weeks in rehabilitation sessions at LaRabida Children's Hospital, eager to return to his normal life. One of the things he missed most was baseball.
After hearing of Rayshon's tragedy, the White Sox invited the Cobbs and the staff responsible for Rayshon's recovery to U.S. Cellular Field on Friday night. They were able to watch batting practice and sat directly behind the home dugout. The family met Kenny Williams, Harold Baines, Orlando Hudson and, of course, Southpaw.
